LibChat is the way Library staff chat internally. This semester, we have created a student assistant account for students to be logged into while they are at the desk that way we can easily chat with you and you can see who is available to help.
A few key things to note:
- You should always have chat open and set as available while you are at the desk. You can set your status as "away" if you leave the desk.
- Chats are NOT private. Chats can and will be seen by staff and other student workers because it is a shared account.
- Since it is a shared student account, if you chat with someone, it can be helpful to let them know who you are, especially if it's someone who isn't in Public Services and might not have access to the student desk schedule.
- Green dots next to names mean the person is online. Yellow means "away" and red means they are offline. Sometimes chats do not go through. If you haven't gotten an answer from someone for a while, try refreshing the screen and sending the chat again. If that doesn't work, you can always send them an email or call their extension.
- Having sound turned on helps you hear when someone's chatting with you.
- Always sign off at the end of your shift. It will log you out when you close the window and log out of your account.
- If you need help logging in, you can ask the desk supervisor for assistance.
