The Storm King Mountain Decision began in 1963 when the New York based power company Consolidated Edison filed for a permit with the Federal Power Commission to build a pumped storage plant at the base of Storm King Mountain. Over the next 18 years an organization by the name of Scenic Hudson battled Con Ed in the courts. The groundbreaking decision that ruled in Scenic Hudson's favor set the legal precedent that gave ordinary public citizens the right to take legal action against large corporations in which the public has no monetary objections.

The first picture is an artit's rendition of what the plant would look like upon completion. It was this sketch that Con Ed published in it's annual report that overwhelmingly turned the public against Con Ed's plan.
The second photo is a copy of a political cartoon published in the New York Times that demonstrates how the public viewed Con Ed and Governor Rockefeller throughout the case.
