The specialized databases below will provide company and industry portraits.  There is some overlap in information provided, but each resource does have some unique information.  Several of the resources identify companies considered to be competitors.

Business Source Elite

  1. From the Red Menu Bar at the top of the screen, select "Company Profiles"
  2. Type in Company Name or Company Name Keyword.
  3. Select the Company to view the Market Line Report (generally dozens of pages long). Sections include:
    1. Company Overview
    2. Key Facts
    3. Business Description
    4. History
    5. Key Employees
    6. Key Employee Biographies
    7. Major Products and Services
    8. SWOT Analysis
    9. Top Competitors
    10. Company View (generally text reproduced from the 10K or ARS)
    11. Locations & Subsidiaries

Business Insights

  1. Type in the name of the company
  2. From the menu on the left, look at the following links
    1. Company Chronology (Timeline of corporate events)
    2. Company Histories (Multi-page narrative history)
    3. SWOT Reports

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage

To locate the Stock Report:

  1. Type in the name of the company in the search box (choose the entry with the Ticker Symbol)
  2. On left side menu, scroll down to the "Research" Section
  3. Select "Investment Research"
  4. Open the report by CFRA Equity Research.  The reports are 7-9 pages and include:
    1. Stock Summary with Highlights and Investment Rationale/Risk
    2. Business Summary
    3. Company Financials
    4. Sub-Industry Outlook

Hoover's

Type in the name of the company.  Reports are dozens of pages long and include:

  1. Key Information
  2. Key Financials
  3. Company Rankings
  4. Key People
  5. Company Description
  6. Company History
  7. Industry Information
  8. People with Biographies (extensive list)
  9. Company Financials
  10. Competitor's List
  11. Competitive Landscape
