American Civil War, 1861-1865: The News

War Reporting

The American Civil War was fought on two fronts, the Eastern Front along the Pennsylvania border and from the West along the Mississippi River. News from the West did not often make it back East, so the New York Times couldn't report it.  The Chicago Tribune provides better news coverage for the Western Front, including the Navy battles along the Mississippi River.
