What are zines?: Zines at the Marist Library

Find zines at the library

The Zine Library is available anytime the library is open. It is located on the shelves directly behind the area with the beanbag chairs. To browse all the zines in the library, you can browse in-person, or search in FoxHunt either by subject (zines), title, or creator. Unlike other materials in the library, zines are not organized by call number, but sorted into categories. This means you'll have to do a little more browsing and exploring to find what you want, and maybe while you look you'll find other zines to read too!

Zine Events

All events are held near the zine library! You don't need to sign up for the events in order to attend. You don't need to know anything about zines to come to an event! All supplies will be provided!

Here are the zine events for Spring 2025:

  • February 13th 6:30-7:30pm: Zine making on all things love---romantic love, platonic love, sexuality, sex, heartbreak, etc.
  • March 13th 6:30-7:30pm: Zine 101 & zine making---come learn what a zine is & how you can make your own
  • April 22nd 6:30-7:30pm: Earth Day zine making---make a zine out of recycled materials

Partner with us

If you're part of a club and want to partner with us, email us at publicservices.library@marist.edu. You can come to the library or we can come to you! We're also available to table at events or host events outside the library. We'd love to work with you!

If you're a faculty member and would like to involve zines in your classes, reach out to us! We're happy to talk more about what that could look like. We're also available to come to classes to talk about zines, or you can bring your students to the Zine Library! Check out our Zines in the Classroom tab to learn more about incorporating zines into your classes & what we can offer!

Make your own zines

The zine library has zine making supplies to help you make your own zine(s)! These include computers & a scanner, collage materials, paper, pens & pencils, & a stapler.

Feel free to spread out at the long tables by the stacks or sit on the floor by the beanbag chairs to make your zine(s)!

Check out the Making Zines tab for some inspiration!

Donate a zine

We'd love to add your zine to our collection! If you'd like to donate your zine, email publicservices.library@marist.edu.

The donation process:

  • When donating your own zine(s), you'll sign a consent form. This allows us to own your physical zine and use it in our collection, but you keep full rights to the content!
  • We will not duplicate or digitize your zine.
  • Your zine can be listed in our catalog under your name or a pseudonym or it can be listed as anonymous.
  • You decide whether your zine can be borrowed from the library or only read inside.
  • You may ask us to remove your zine from the collection at anytime.
  • Your zine might be damaged or lost due to use.
