FYS101: Why Barbie?: Newspapers

U.S. Mainstream Newspapers

African American Newspapers

International Newspapers

Citing Newspapers

The newspaper databases on this page will create citations for you, but they are always incorrect.

Errors in Chicago to look out for:

  • Abbreviating the month
  • Putting a "0" in front of single digit dates like 02
  • Listing "Special to the New York Times" and other things that are not people as the author
  • Adding dates or editions to newspaper names like New York Times (1857-1922)
  • Putting in volume and issue numbers which are unnecessary
  • Capitalizing the entire article title (because many headlines were written in all caps and the computer hangs onto it, you should not)

You will need to correct the citations.  Use the handouts below for help checking your newspaper citations.
